$3,000 cash prize and a week-long residency at MASS MoCA worth $1,500

The Dorset Prize is open to anyone writing in the English language, whether living in the United States or abroad. Poets submitting work for consideration may be published authors or writers without prior book publications. Past winners include Mario Chard, Ilya Kaminsky, G.C. Waldrep, Jesse Lee Kercheval, Ruth Ellen Kocher, and Lisa Hiton.

Meet This Year's Contest Judge

Maggie Smith is the author of three award-winning books of poetry -
Lamp of the Body, The Well Speaks of Its Own Poison, and Good Bones, named one of the Five Best Poetry Books of the year by
The Washington Post - and three prizewinning chapbooks. Smith's work has appeared in The New York Times, Tin House, The Paris Review, AGNI, The Believer, The Washington Post, The Best American Poetry, and on an episode of the CBS drama Madam Secretary. The recipient of a Pushcart Prize and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Sustainable Arts Foundation, and the Ohio Arts Council, Smith works as a freelance writer and editor, and as an editor at large for The Kenyon Review. She recently joined the MFA faculty of Spalding University's School of Creative and Professional Writing.
