CRWROPPS Post: PEN America 2021 Writing for Justice Fellowship
We are currently accepting applications for the 2021 PEN America Writing For Justice Fellowship! As of now, the application closes February 15, 2021, but we may extend the deadline.
I am writing to ask for your assistance in spreading the word about our Fellowship and its application to your communities and networks, who might be interested in the experience. At the bottom of this email is some adoptable tweet language.
For over four decades PEN America's Prison Writing Program has supported and amplified the writing of many thousands of imprisoned writers through providing free resources, skilled mentors, and audiences for their writing. We are proud to deepen our commitment to confronting our era of mass incarceration through the Writing For Justice Fellowship.
The Writing For Justice Fellowship 2021 will commission six or more writers—emerging or established—to create written works of lasting merit that illuminate critical issues related to mass incarceration and catalyze public debate.
We invite you to learn about our two previous Writing For Justice Fellowship cohorts by visiting our website.
As an organization of writers dedicated to promoting free expression and informed discourse, PEN America is honored to have been entrusted by the Art for Justice Fund to engage the literary community in addressing this pressing societal issue. The Fellowship is open-genre and writers at all stages of their career, including currently and formerly incarcerated writers, are eligible to apply.
The online application portal opens January 15, 2021, and the deadline to apply is February 15, 2021. Learn more about what the Fellowship entails, and the updated application requirements on our website by clicking here.
If your work engages formerly and currently incarcerated individuals, we'd be grateful for your assistance in helping this information reach their hands. Please visit this link for a printer-friendly copy of the Fellowship information, which includes specific instructions for mail-based application.
We hope you will help us amplify this opportunity by sharing the Fellowship announcement with your community, both behind the walls and on the outside, and encourage promising candidates in your network to apply.
