CRWROPPS Post: Call for Submissions for Three New Writing Fellowships
The Writers' Colony at Dairy Hollow is a non-profit arts organization in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, that offers writing residencies and hosts literary workshops, retreats, and events. We currently have three new fellowship opportunities that you or your writers may be interested in. Two are open now, and another opens on April 5.
The "Moondancer" fellowship is awarded to an author who expresses their love of nature and concern for the environment through their writing. This fellowship is open to poets, fiction writers, playwrights, essayists, columnists, memoirists, and screenwriters. Prior publication is not a requirement. The submitted work sample should demonstrate literary merit and the promise of publication, or in the case of theater and film, production.
The submission deadline is midnight CST on Monday, May 31, 2021. The winner will be announced no later than June 18, 2021. The residency must be completed by July 31, 2022. For an application form, visit https://www.writerscolony.org/fellowships.
Poets assembling their first book of poems are invited to apply for the "Emerging Poets" fellowship. Eligible applicants shall not have published a chapbook or other book of verse but may have published other books. (Published means the book has been issued for public sale and distribution.) Prior publication of individual poems is desirable but not required. The writing sample provided must demonstrate literary merit and the promise of publication in book form.
The submission deadline is midnight CST on Monday, June 14, 2021. The residency must be completed by July 31, 2022. For an application form, visit https://www.writerscolony.org/fellowships.
The "Celebrate Maya!" fellowship opens on April 5. This fellowship invites young writers, ages 18 to 25, to explore social justice issues including racial discrimination, women's rights, and/or educational disparity. The work may be in any literary genre: fiction or nonfiction, poetry or prose, or a combination. The successful application will demonstrate insight, honesty, literary merit, and the likelihood of publication.
Two fellowships will be awarded. One will be unrestricted. The other will be awarded to a young writer from the Arkansas Southern Delta region. The submission deadline is midnight CST on Monday, June 28, 2021. The residency must be completed by December 31, 2022. For an application form, visit writerscolony.org/fellowships.
Fellowship winners will each receive a two-week residency at the Writers' Colony at Dairy Hollow in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. We provide uninterrupted writing time, a European-style gourmet dinner served on weeknights, the camaraderie of other professional writers when you want it, and a community kitchen stocked with the basics.
Please share these opportunities with writers who you think may be interested. A link to letter-sized posters for each fellowship is available here.
Thank you for helping us spread the word!
Stay safe, be well, and write on.
Sincerely,
