Judged by C Pam Zhang, author of How Much Of These Hills Is Gold

The winner will receive $250 and publication in Pigeon Pages.

Honorable mentions will receive $50 and publication.


Submission Guidelines 

  • Previously unpublished fiction pieces of 3,000 words or less are eligible for this contest. 

  • There is a $10 fee to submit. 

  • We do accept simultaneous submissions, but we ask that authors let us know if the submitted piece is accepted elsewhere. 

  • Authors should not include personal information on their story as submissions will be read blind.

  • All submissions will be considered for publication in the general journal.


The Black Writers Fund

Pigeon Pages' Editor-at-large, Hannah Bae, has raised funds to cover submissions fees for Black writers to our contests. The fund can cover one contest submission per person while funds last; first come, first serve. More information for writers about the process can be found on our website.

If you want to donate to this Black writers' fund, Pigeon Pages would gratefully welcome any contributions via PayPal. All of these donations will go to Black writers' submission fees. (Anyone who'd like to donate can send PayPal "friends and family" $ to pigeonpagesnyc@gmail.com.)

The Creative Writing Program in the Department of English invites applications for the Edelstein-Keller Writer in Residence Fellowship! This fellowship is a nine-month academic year position 2023-2025, starting August 28, 2023. Deadline for applications is Monday, April 3, 2023. The fellow will be in residence on the Minneapolis campus for four semesters over two years, teaching two creative writing courses (graduate and undergraduate) each academic year. The fellow will participate in creative writing events and committees, including admissions and graduate thesis committees, and will give a public reading of their work. It's pretty incredible: one-month holiday accommodation in Crested Butte, Colorado , and a $1,000 stipend.
